Four reasons Agathon hosting might not be for you

Agathon has been providing hosting services almost from its inception, and has specifically been offering professional WordPress hosting for more than eight years now. We’re passionate about the things that set us apart—namely, the service, the expertise, and the personal support we offer.

And yet, we’re confident enough in what we offer to know we’re not the best fit for everyone. In fact, there are even times when we recommend that prospective clients don’t move to Agathon. We truly want to see our clients succeed, and that means being honest from the first conversation.

This post isn’t meant to be a secret pat on the back, highlighting the things we do well (i.e. “If you like to have your support requests ignored, then Agathon isn’t for you!”). Instead, we’re sharing four situations where we truly don’t recommend Agathon hosting:

You’re a hobby blogger

For some bloggers, their blog is a just a hobby—and not a source of income. If that’s true for you, things like site speed, search engine rankings, and uptime probably aren’t as important to you as they are to someone who relies on their site to feed their children. Don’t get us wrong, we love hobby blogs and even run a few of our own! But for hobby bloggers, a cheap shared hosting plan will probably work just fine. We’d be hesitant to recommend anything different for you.

You’re just starting out

Similarly, if you’re just starting out, you might be hesitant to invest much time, effort, or money into this blogging thing. In that case, cheap hosting plan might make the most sense. Cheap hosting offers you the opportunity to experiment and learn without worrying about covering the monthly cost of hosting. Of course, as your site begins to grow, get more traffic, and produce income, you can always switch over to a host that specializes in professional WordPress hosting.

The exception to this advice is if you’re one of those people destined to rule the world with your writing. If you have a plan to go big, you may want to avoid the headache of having to transfer later on and start out with a host that can support your growth from the beginning.

You prefer to handle your own technology

One of Agathon’s key values is providing personalized, expert support. This gives our clients more time to focus on the parts of their businesses that matter most, i.e. content creation, social media, partnerships, product launches, etc. However, if you have a good understanding of the technology that runs your site—and you enjoy working on it—there are self-serve options that may work better for you.

If you’re looking for a technology partner for you and your business—someone who can answer your questions, support you when things go wrong, and empower you with a better understanding of the way things work, Agathon support might be exactly what you need!

You’re happy with your current host

We almost never recommend that prospective clients switch to Agathon if they’re happy with their current host; in fact, we often go so far as to recommend they stay right where they are. If you’re paying a price you feel good about, your server is stable, and you’re getting personal support when you need it, that’s great! There are minor risks inherent in moving hosts—it’s just the nature of the technology—and if you’re happy with things the way they are, there’s no reason to risk even a minor amount of downtime.

Of course, if you’re not happy with your host—if you’re paying too much, or your site is being throttled, if you have trouble getting answers to your questions or getting help when you need it—then we’re here for you, and we’d love the opportunity to serve you!
